4.3. Enginehouse

The enginehouse for the original White River & Northern was made from balsa wood stained with coffee, an aluminum foil roof (rubbed over threads stretched across cardstock), and hand-cut Plastruct windows. The design may have come from an old issue of Model Railroader magazine.

For the Greystone & Rock Bottom, I heavily modified a Branchline Laser-Art kit. During the transition to the Mountain Vista Railroad, the enginehouse acquired new animated doors and welding effect.

For the last WR&N, I added yet another special effect: working exhaust fans.

Reference

There was no real-life counterpart to the enginehouse. Subsequently I did find a vaguely similar structure, but it wasn't of much help.
