Exhaust FansThis animation is actually cobbled together from the remains of the window fans I'd made for the hardware store on the Mountain Vista Railroad. I revised the mechanism to operate two large exhaust fans, which I installed in the enginehouse on the White River & Northern X. First, I had to lengthen the gear train so the fans could sit higher. I made new blades from thin slices of styrene rod attached to 1:700 airplane props. A piece of styrene angle serves as a retainer to keep the blades in place in the cowl. The fans were tested after painting and before installation. They were installed behind a large window opening on the enginehouse.
The video shows a crude screen in front of the fans; this was a piece of aluminum micro-mesh (below left). After seeing the video, I replaced it with material removed from a micro-speaker (below right). The exhaust fans currently reside on the Where She Sleeps diorama.
