Y'Know?
Y'know how some people say "y'know" a lot? It's an interesting speech habit that I never paid much attention to until one random evening when I decided to watch the 1989 version of Batman and discovered that it had a director's commentary track. Now, Tim Burton is a pretty strange dude to begin with, but sit him down for two hours of commentary, and you're in for a WTF stream-of-consciousness treat. Half the time he never completes a thought; the other half he's repeating "y'know" a bazillion times. Indeed, he says it so often—sometimes as many as 6-8 times in a single sentence—that I decided to keep count. Here are the scores for the films I have on hand that feature his commentary:
