1. The Plan
This short-lived layout was inspired by my membership activities with the Pine Creek Railroad at Allaire State Park in Wall Township, New Jersey. This tiny narrow gauge railroad comprises a single 0.6-mile loop.
Although an accurate layout of the entire line would have been practical in Z Scale, I wanted to focus on the yard area to keep the size down to a minimum. By hiding the bulk of the loop, the final layout size was a mere 18 by 48 inches.
I used prints of satellite images to trace the actual track arrangement on the layout base, which was two sheets of 1/2-inch thick Gatorfoam laminated together.
