4.13. Culvert
Just as John Allen had done, I made a stone culvert for the discharge from the old mill.
I used an old Chooch N Scale culvert for mine.
But what Allen never did was model the other end of this culvert. Perhaps it was imagined as being off the front edge of the layout, but after he'd expanded the original G&D, the stream never reappeared. Allen was renowned for his sense of humor, so it may have been deliberate; we'll never know. But I decided to address it by making an outlet for my Z Scale adaptation, placing it in a little wedge of land right in front of the truss bridge.
If nothing else, it added more visual interest to the front of the layout in an otherwise dead space.
