Gotta turn on the charm today for my first official social gathering in the house (outside of fairly frequent impromptu get-togethers with helpers and local friends). I'm not really up for it, but this has been in the works for months, and I can't turn people away just 'cause I'm down in the dumps. So, bring it. The snacks and beverages are ready. I even have chairs!

The kitchen is coming together, with about 95% of the tile work done. I must confess, it looks almost as good as I'd hoped it would, which is quite a rare thing indeed—not many of my accomplishments come close to, much less meet, my expectations.

The saga of the TCO continues. The septic engineer contacted the County Health Department to get the permit number for my application, and the County worker complained to the engineer about all of the paperwork I failed to submit to them. (Seriously?!) Fortunately I'd emailed the engineer a day earlier about how they lost everything that's been sent to them—duplicates, in some cases—so the engineer had a much better perspective of the situation; indeed, the engineer was willing to go to bat for me and help resolve the problem. Bottom line, this is going to take even more time, but at least I have someone on my side. I feel as though my life has been shortened by a few years due to the stress of dealing with this mess.

Keeping myself busy with the kitchen counters. In fact, I got so into the project that I worked almost non-stop from 2 AM until 3:30 PM. I sure slept well last night after that little marathon.

The week is sort of slipping past me, when I really should be getting ready for an event this weekend that I'm hosting. I have a feeling I won't be ready, but then again, it'll probably be just fine no matter what I do—or don't do.

In between social events, I've been playing with mosaic tile patterns for the kitchen countertops. It figures that all of this tile showed up just when I had the least amount of time available to devote to the task!
