Mel Brooks did not improve with age; if anything, he's gotten worse. Aside from the fact that Brooks' sense of humor isn't even first-grader level, the insufferable Spaceballs is also proof that Brooks really doesn't understand film: Star Wars is, at its heart, a spoof of Flash Gordon-esque Saturday matinees. The problem: a spoof of a spoof never works. It comes off as just plain dumb.
I'm hard-pressed to say which is worse, this or Blazing Saddles, and honestly it's not worth the effort to make a choice. But if someone held a gun to my head, I'd say this. Consider: the film won Worst Picture at the 1987 Stinkers Bad Movie Awards. It makes Plan 9 from Outer Space look like a Best Picture contender. 96 minutes of your life you'll never get back...
