Locomotives
This Shay scene could not be more perfect (hence it became the banner image). This was taken on the Hardwick & Woodbury Railroad, near Hardwick, Vermont.
Hardwick & Woodbury had three Shays, #1, #2 and #3:
Shays were something of an exception; 0-4-0, 0-4-2, 0-6-0 and 0-6-2 tankers were most often seen on quarry lines.
These were taken on the J.K. Pirie Granite Quarry Railroad in Williamstown, Vermont.
Rolling Stock
Short flatcars are the backbone of a quarry railroad. Most of these were taken on the J.K. Pirie Granite Quarry Railroad in Williamstown, Vermont.
Especially large pieces were often the subject of portraits.
Quarry trains rarely ran with a caboose, but you might see one on occasion.
Derricks
Some quarries had small rolling derricks to unload stone at the cutting shed.
Maintenance of Way
The Hardwick & Woodbury Railroad had a snow plow, flanger and caboose.
Roberts Quarry had a relatively modern crane.
