2.2. Cutting Sheds
Cutting sheds—the core of every quarry industry—came in all shapes and sizes, and were almost always wooden. Often beginning as simple barn-like structures with lots of doors along the sides, they would grow over time, sprouting additions and extensions, and acquiring a lot of character along the way. There would also be other buildings on the site, such as offices, steam plants, machine shops, storage sheds, and other cutting sheds. Some facilities were bigger than some towns.
Inside the Sheds
Early sheds were just big spaces full of what looks like rubble. Later, they acquired large traveling overhead cranes and powered finishing equipment.
