Grump Central Archive: Week of 16 June 2019

Saturday, 22 June 2019

After an intensely busy week, Friday was a low-key day spent just piddling around and waiting for the daily deluges to stop, at least for a little while. The weekend looks like it'll be nice, so maybe I'll get to piddle outside. In other news, I may be expecting (another) new washer today. The timing is awkward since I've not been able to rock the laundry yet, but that's the least of my concerns at the moment; I just want a machine that bloody works...

With the water filtration system running, my water is the cleanest I've ever seen it. No color, no smell, no sediment, just pure and clear. It's amazing. But then again, it had better be, given that I've spent close to a grand getting it that way. Meanwhile, we continue to receive drenching downpours several times a day—sometimes while the sun is still shining.

This rain is utterly absurd. Last night it poured all night long. It's depressing. Sometimes when I'm down, I find looking at my kids' baby pictures can cheer me up. Here's Zack, Roy and Pris at just a couple of weeks old. Looks like Roy is giving us a raspberry!

Two steps forward, two back. With the washer and dryer gone, I've returned to where I was four days ago; such is how things often go 'round here. Unfortunately I'm getting used to it. On the plus side, my water filtration system has arrived, and it's enormous. This is no quickie install—so far all I've done is bolt the thing to the garage wall and cut some pipe. Meanwhile, we get to endure daily downpours.

Today the new washer and dryer get picked up, and I'll be glad to see them go. A good bit of the day yesterday was spent at the laundromat doing what I couldn't get done with the brand new appliances. Oh well, lesson learned: do your homework before spending any money, especially when it's someone else's.

As we head into a week of miserable weather, I'm turning "inward" and addressing work inside the house, like sheetrocking the garage, although I confess that I'm still bereft of enthusiasm after the washing machine mess. I could launch into a long-winded editorial on our disposable society, etcetera, etcetera, but what's the point? It's infinitely more satisfying to play with my kitties or my model trains.

The stress of the washer debacle has affected my health, and I've been under the weather all weekend. It's time to take a short breather and focus on getting better. Meanwhile, weather reports anticipate a week of rain is on the way. This trend is really starting to get to me...
