Grump Central Archive: Week of 7 July 2019

Going nearly 11 hours without power was probably a major pain for most folks, except perhaps for those few who could afford whole-house backup generators. Me? After living off-grid for five years, it was no big deal. I fired up my little Honda genny, plugged in the refrigerator, and carried on as per usual, the only difference being a lack of music. The experience did inspire me to get a small power transfer switch to install in the garage, along with an external power inlet jack, to make running the refrigerator on a genny more convenient.

Running on battery backup for this post, as we've been without power since around 11:00 PM last night, and it's 6:00 AM right now. No idea when it'll be restored, but the blackout is not just my immediate area, so last night's storm must have caused some major damage somewhere. Anyway, must sign off as the UPS is about to expire.

Unfortunately I've been feeling the onset of a Sarcoid attack, as my energy level is bottoming out, so I haven't been accomplishing much of late. Today's pick-me-up photo was taken during a time when all three of my furry grandchildren could fit in my lap at once. Good times.

The County Health Department never showed up yesterday, so all bets are off when this will actually happen (silly me, when they said, "We'll be there tomorrow morning," I took them at their word).

Since my guests aren't arriving until late this afternoon, I'm able to make some more headway with the house after all. Also, I have a clean bill of health from the water testing service, so I'm all set for a final Health Department inspection—which, if all goes well, will happen this morning. TCO, here I come...

Monday, 8 July 2019

Won't be getting much done on the house today, as I'll be in a cleaning frenzy preparing for guests tomorrow.

Sunday, 7 July 2019

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for the weekend. The temperatures weren't all that bad (no more than 90°), but the humidity was through the roof (98%). I had to run my AC to keep things in check.
