Grump Central Archive: Week of 30 June 2019

Curiously, yesterday I was betting I'd get my water re-test report, and not my dryer. Turns out the complete opposite happened. Go figure. As an aside, when the delivery truck arrived, it was the same fellows who had been here twice before, and the driver greeted me saying, "We got the call we're going back out the the beautiful house." You have no idea how good it made me feel that a pair of young, blue-collar grunts referred to my humble abode as "the beautiful house." I hope they get to deliver the rest of my appliances...

Today I'm supposed to learn the results of my water re-test, and I'm supposed to receive my new-new dryer. Place your bets on which items actually come to pass.

Happy Independence Day! Please celebrate responsibly. That refers to fireworks as well as beverages. I've always felt that fireworks in the hands of the general public is never a good thing—way too many injuries, not to mention terrorized pets and wildlife. Blowing stuff up has nothing to do with honoring the sacrifices made by our ancestors to create this country. Please, people, use your brains.

Lowe's has struck again. I was supposed to get my new-new dryer last week; now they're saying this Friday at the earliest—it could be another week or more after that, because their warehouse hasn't even received the shipment from LG yet. So I ask, the unit is in stock at a nearby store; why not ship it from there? Answer: "Oh, no, we don't do that. You'd have to cancel this order and place a new one with that store." Yeah, that makes a lot of sense, right? I should have known, after the phantom window order I placed last year... worst store ever...

Today I get my water re-tested, and unless something unexpectedly goes terribly wrong, it should pass, and I'll be in line for a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (making my years-long occupancy of the property "legal" for the very first time—shhhhh).

Suddenly the house is starting to look like a home...

Sheetrocking progress is slow but steady. Likely the most significant accomplishment so far has been finishing off the area around the bed. Now I don't feel like I'm sleeping in a construction zone anymore, with all of the studs and insulation neatly hidden away.
