Around Aldbury

Aldbury is an attractive village and has appeared in numerous motion pictures and television productions. It's better known to some as Swingingdale or Little-Storping-In-The-Swuff from The Avengers. Aldbury is in Hertfordshire near Tring, a few stops up the railway line from Watford.

Built in the Classical style, Bridgewater monument commemorates Francis, Third Duke of Bridgewater, the so-called "father of inland navigation" and an early investor in the building of canals for the transportation of materials and goods in the early industrial age. Obviously giving his name to the Bridgewater Canal, the monument actually celebrates the Duke's initiative in the construction of the Grand Junction Canal:
