When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions

2008, Discovery/NASA

A joint project between the Discovery Channel and NASA, When We Left Earth is a surprisingly fresh, eye-popping look at material that's been rehashed countless times. High-resolution footage combined with excellent writing and editing result in a very watchable experience: it's not laden with needless, over-the-top drama, but it's also not bone-dry. If anything, it could have been just a wee bit longer, as it tends to breeze through some topics. Need an enjoyable refresher course on NASA's history from the moon landing to the space shuttle? This six-hour documentary is the one for you. Be sure to get the Blu-Ray version.
