With a premise that smacked of The X Files, The Event attempted to create a mountain of intrigue out of a molehill of mysteries surrounding a group of extraterrestrials, some of whom were being detained by the government, and others living among us. Less science fiction and more vague mystery-slash-political allegory-slash-soap opera-ish drama, the series just didn't seem to have a purpose, leaving us waiting for some reason to stick with it.
