Although this much-lauded series got off to a shaky start, what with all manner of goings-on with the cast (including a serious mental health issue with Michael O'Hare), it eventually found its footing, as well as its faithful fans. In spite of a few misfires, the episodes were generally enthralling, with just the right amount of humor to keep the otherwise dark drama from becoming too grim; it's the perfect example of the good that can come from giving a single person—in this case, writer/producer J. Michael Straczynski—the ability to realize his vision his way.
For me, the final episode alone was worth the trip through the entire series, and I still feel it's one of the finest series endings ever produced—I confess to having been reduced to a sobbing blob by the end; the toast scene still gets me choked up and teary-eyed to this day.
