Tin Toy

Not only did Tin Toy save Pixar from being shut down by owner Steve Jobs, it became the inspiration (perhaps not surprisingly) for Toy Story, and won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. For me, it seemed to fall just shy of earlier efforts due in large part to the rendering of Billy the baby, said to be an enormous technical challenge. Sound design, however, is excellent. Despite being only 60% complete, it received a standing ovation at the 1988 SIGGRAPH convention.
