Sanjay's Super Team

2002, Walt Disney/Pixar

Pixar has been making sure they're inclusive, offering opportunities for young directors to render visions of their cultures with short films. Writer/director Sanjay Patel presents an honest, personal story about culture clash between children and parents. However, for reasons I can't articulate, this one just doesn't quite gel, at least not the way Domee Shi's flawless Bao does. Was Patel trying too hard? I don't know. That said, it's certainly not a bad way to spend seven minutes; some of the visuals are strikingly original.
