1974, John Boorman Productions Ltd.

All dressed up with nowhere to go, writer/director/producer John Boorman's follow-up to an aborted attempt at filming Lord of the Rings left everyone scratching their heads. While Boorman had some pretty deep topics to cover, the finished film's quirkiness left audiences wondering whether or not to take anything seriously. I guess I'm an outlier, because I rather enjoyed this bomb, and like so many other bombs, it's gone on to enjoy a cult following, with some praising it as a masterwork. Incidentally, all of the special effects were done in-camera, which certainly involved a great deal of creativity on the part of the production crew.
