Making a film based on a video game, while not new, is certainly risky. Not being a video game player, I had no expectations other than to be entertained. Consequently the film is not quite as bad as its reputation would have you believe, but it's still pretty bad. Much of the criticism was how it deviated from the story and style of the game, which I'm ill-equipped to address, but I can confirm it has lame acting, cheesy dialog and crappy effects.
