Wall-E

2008, Pixar/Walt Disney

The sheer brilliance of Wall-E cannot be overstated. The proof is in how we become so enthralled by a story set in a dystopian future (rendered more convincingly than Mad Max or any of its many clones) with no humans and no dialog. Another secret to its success is an endearing little robot who channels Charlie Chaplin. And let's be honest: this is a love story, much more so than a science fiction fable, and who doesn't love a tender, touching love story? I'd be hard-pressed to imagine the circumstances necessary to push this out of my all-time faves list.
