I have a great big soft spot for this film. It has an undeniable purity of style, with no end of creativity. I have just one problem with it: producer/director Warren Beatty playing the title role. I'm sorry, but he simply did not have the chops to bring the square-jawed hero to life. What a shame that he should sabotage his own great vision, as this would otherwise have been a Top Pick for me.
