Tangled

2010, Walt Disney Animation

If there was ever a prototype Disney classic fairy tale perfectly updated for twenty-first century tastes, this is it. Aside from the stunning CGI, there's a lot going for Tangled, and this is from a guy who doesn't like musicals. The story is treated with just the right degree of irreverence, the characters are perfectly contemporary and, in a possible Disney first, the requisite comic relief isn't totally annoying (thinking here of Frozen); giving the role to a horse who doesn't speak is total genius. The only thing that keeps me from maxing out the score is, well, it's still a musical, and I still don't care much for them. But I tolerate it here because everything else about Tangled is pure perfection.

For six more minutes of fun, be sure to catch Tangled Ever After.
