Romancing the Stone

1984, Michael Douglas

Were it not for Danny DiVito, my score for this Indiana Jones clone would be higher. But, well, I can't help it if he really irritates me—to the point that I didn't bother seeing the sequel, The Jewel of the Nile. Notable for having launched Kathleen Turner's career, returning Michael Douglas to the public eye, and giving director Robert Zemeckis the cred to make Back to the Future.

A sequel, The Jewel of the Nile, was released in 1985. While nearly as successful at the box office, it was not well received by critics.
