I honestly cannot imagine why the Wachowskis were allowed to make anything beyond the original Matrix, because they clearly lost hold on reality and consistently produced bombs. And not just ordinary bombs, but Big Brown Bombs. An ill-conceived live-action adaptation of the 1960s manga, Speed Racer is no exception; having lost millions at the box office, it embarrassed everyone who participated in its production. Although it's now regarded by some as "underrated" and even a "masterpiece," that view is far from universal, particularly among those of us who suffered acute eyestrain from its oversaturated visuals.
