Spartacus

1960, Bryna Productions

Spartacus is for me something of the prototype epic from the Great Era of Epics. While it wasn't especially well-received when it was originally released, critics have since been growing kinder over the years; it may be that, taken in the context of its contemporaries, it was perhaps better than most, and even though I'm not especially fond of the genre, I tend to enjoy this old thing, for reasons I can't pretend to comprehend. But I can say that I really like Alex North's score.
