Red Sonja

1985, Dino De Laurentiis

Sword and sorcery isn't a preferred genre of mine, but occasionally I'll dip my toe in it for giggles. Here's a bona fide bomb, having made less than half of its cost, despite Arnold Schwarzenegger's imposing presence. Brigitte Nielsen, a fashion model from Demark, got her acting debut when producer De Laurentiis saw her on a magazine cover and thought she looked sufficiently "Amazonian." The film might have fared better—if only marginally—had they ramped up the awful dialog and hammy acting, and turned into a parody. As it is, it's not quite bad enough to be "so bad it's good."
