The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad

1958, Morningside Productions

Of the Sinbad trilogy, this is far and away the best. Ray Harryhausen is in top form, creating stop motion effects better than one might imagine possible for this era of filmmaking. Loaded with pure innocent charm, thanks largely to the bright, enthusiastic performances of Kerwin Mathews and Kathryn Grant, it's a nostalgic trip back to a time when films had no motive other than to entertain. And Bernard Herrmann provided one of the very best scores of his career. (I just watched it recently, and what a wonderful tonic for the Covid lockdown it was!)

"I shall try, oh Master, I shall try."
