As fans loudly bemoaned the premature cancellation of Firefly, Joss Whedon fought an uphill battle to revive the series, and the best he could manage was a compromise. Despite having a number of things working against the film—the need for some familiarity with the series to appreciate it, having to compress a full season's worth of stories into two hours, among others—it still manages to succeed reasonably well, mostly because it bears Whedon's brilliant, inimitable style (although, lately his reputation is taking a beating). It also has, IMHO, one of the very funniest gag reels of all time.
