Anthony Hopkins—in perhaps his most restrained role—and Emma Thompson captivate in this adaptation of the novel of the same name. The studied pace almost gives it the feel of a stage play, with long, silent looks transmitting volumes. Richard Robbins contributes a sumptuous score that I'll frequently play.
