Ratatouille

2007, Pixar

Earning virtually unanimous critical praise—indeed, the highest of any Pixar film—Ratatouille serves up one of the most original, engaging and poignant works ever seen in the world of animation. Pixar went so far as to consult top chefs in an effort to render appealing-looking food, as well as to fully understand and appreciate the titular dish. While the story unfolds in ever-more-intriguing and entertaining ways, nothing can prepare you for the touching, tender denouement. It still chokes me up.

If for whatever unfathomable reason you haven't seen this film, you owe it to yourself to rent it right now. Better yet, buy it—you'll want to see it again.
