The Quiet Earth

Bruno Lawrence delivers a bravura performance as the last man on Earth in this small-budget indie film from New Zealand. Although the premise for the simultaneous disappearance of virtually every human on the planet is all but impossible to swallow, if one focuses instead on the outcome and its effects on the few remaining people as depicted, it becomes a fascinating, believable character study you may be inclined to watch more than once.
