Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

2016, Tim Burton Productions et al

As something of a minor comeback for Tim Burton, whose career sort of went off the rails for a few years, Home for Peculiar Children is a good fit for his sensibilities, and one of his more stylish efforts. But visual style tends to trump storytelling, which is a bit thin, with an anticlimactic ending and a number of untied loose ends. Not that this necessarily a bad thing, but it does leave one feeling a bit unsatisfied when the credits roll.
