ParaNorman

2012, Laika

ParaNorman sort of caught me by surprise: I went into it with no awareness of what to expect, although I'm not sure how this might have influenced my enjoyment of it. ParaNorman is another impressive work from the Laika studio—the stop-motion equivalent to Pixar's CGI. As fine a piece of filmmaking as it is, the story didn't especially grab me, so I settled for simply admiring a fine technical achievement, which was mighty impressive indeed. I had a feeling, though, that the references to old B-movie horror films would be lost on younger audience members.
