Outland

1981, The Ladd Company

It's surprising how a film with so much working against it holds up so well. With an obvious High Noon plot, it should be hokier than it is. With Sean Connery playing an outer-space lawman, it should be hammier than it is. And with 1981 effects, it should be cheesier than it is. Taken for exactly what it is, however, it's still quite enjoyable. If only it didn't have exploding heads (based on a total fallacy back in the day about what presumably happens when people are exposed to a vacuum).
