12 Monkeys

1995, Atlas Entertainment et al

One wouldn't be inclined to think of 12 Monkeys as a Terry Gilliam film (I'm a big Gilliam fan, BTW), particularly since he almost never directs anything but his own scripts. But Gilliam took a liking to David and Janet Peoples' screenplay—a mind-bending tale about deadly viruses, mental patients and time-travel—after producer Charles Roven showed it to him. The story perfectly suited Gilliam's non-linear thinking and counter-intuitive choices. And while not caring much for either Bruce Willis or Brad Pitt, I thought they were most enjoyable; indeed, Pitt was nominated for an Academy Award.
