Under the direction of Ron Howard, Russel Crowe delivers a career-defining performance as the paranoid schizophrenic Nobel Laureate John Nash. The film doesn't just draw us into his life, but into his mind, in ways that illustrate (perhaps) how Nash perceived the world. While it was criticized for straying far from Nash's real life, the filmmakers made it clear they had no intention of being accurate, and while it's genuinely enthralling, it still feels a bit contrived. James Horner created a stunning score, although it would seem he borrowed heavily from his earlier work on Bicentennial Man.
