Memento

2000, Summit Entertainment et al

I wasn't going to create a separate psychological thriller category just for this one film, so let's pretend it's a drama. Christopher Nolan gives us an advance look at his creative genius with this densely-packed quasi-mystery. It requires your full attention as it alternates methodically between temporal perspectives. Critics universally praised it, but curiously I wasn't totally blown away by it. Perhaps it was the overt "cleverness"—sometimes Nolan lays it on a bit thick. But it's certainly well worth your time.
