Harold and Maude

1971, Colin Higgins et al

Here's a comedy too black for the critics, most of whom panned it mercilessly. Time has been kind to it, though, and it's now considered "fresh" by Rotten Tomatoes. Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon have a wonderful chemistry that may get a little too mushy at times, but whenever that happens, Harold tries to commit suicide again in some outlandish manner. Criterion has added it to their library, for what it's worth.
