It's hard to say what demographic Disney was targeting with such a dark fantasy. Angelina Jolie really sunk her teeth into the title role, but the rest of the film was no match for her performance—not even the magnificent effects; everything else felt oddly flat.

Take the first film, add some more characters, and stir. Be sure the plot is well-muddled, and dial back the quality of visuals. Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning gave it their all, but it wasn't enough to save it from being a confusing, uninteresting mess.
