Luca is a young sea monster who befriends a fellow monster, one with a preference for life on dry land as a human in a small Italian seaside village. The simple, somewhat cartoonish character design is something of a departure for Pixar, and is actually refreshingly different; the film is likely targeting a younger demographic, so adults may find it more "lightweight" than typical Pixar fare, although no less heartwarming, and the authentic-feeling village is lovingly rendered. Sprinkled with Italian tunes, the soundtrack is a delight.
