Ironman

2008, Marvel Studios

I'll admit I was a little skeptical about casting Robert Downey Jr. as a superhero. But all doubts were laid to rest as I came to thoroughly enjoy Iron Man. Critics and fans were likewise enthusiastic about it. Snappy script, consistent pace, and great effects contribute to a successful first film in a (larger) franchise that would grow almost exponentially.

Ironman 2

2010, Marvel Studios

Marvel pours on the action and effects in its bid to out-do itself. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And sometimes the story elements feel just a tad contrived. Still some decent set pieces for CGI junkies. While not as well received as numero uno, I enjoyed it, and found Mickey Rourke as Ivan Vanko/Whiplash entertaining.

Ironman 3

2013, Marvel Studios

The franchise continues its inexorable slide into eye-rolling territory as Marvel tries desperately to top itself, this time with not just a couple of Ironmen, but dozens. And Tony Stark continues his inexorable slide into an alternate-universe version of himself that strains belief. Oh, did I mention we now have an Ironwoman?
