Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

2005, Touchstone Pictures et al

This long-awaited big-budget adaptation of Douglas Adams' perennially popular novel almost, but not quite, delivers as promised. While it manages to hit the more popular beats in the book, it feels vaguely incomplete and not entirely satisfying. It is amusing enough, however, to be reasonably entertaining—at least to Adams fans. Alan Rickman as Marvin the Paranoid Android is a hoot. Adams, who co-wrote the screenplay, died before production was completed.
