Frida2002, Ventanarosa et al As an artist, I enjoyed the biopic about painter Frida Kahlo perhaps a bit more than others might. Salma Hayek—who co-produced—brought a fiery conviction to the role, although recent revelations about the film's distributor Harvey Weinstein cast the production in a troubling light. Director Julie Taymor was likely responsible for creating a more authentic perspective, although the film does tend to meander off-course on occasion; still, the extensive extras with the DVD release were enlightening and worthwhile.
