Fantastic Mr. Fox

Let us return to a nearly forgotten time in the history of creative cinema, that of stop-motion animation. There have been some stunning new stop-motion films in recent years, but they rely so heavily on digital retouching that they nearly qualify as CGI. Seemingly in defiance of that, Fox remains decidedly old-school, and all the more refreshing for it.

With an intriguing, original story, vivid characters and great voice cast—featuring such powerhouse talents as George Clooney and Meryl Streep—the film delights in every respect. Although it does occasionally falter, it's so charming that you don't care. Sadly, despite being a critical success, it was very nearly a box office failure, barely breaking even. This wonderful little film deserved so much better...
