Earth vs. the Flying Saucers

1956, Clover Productions

Ray Harryhausen's impressive effects and Hugh Marlowe's above average acting elevate this otherwise derivative invasion fare above contemporary films of the same ilk. Although laughable by today's standards, if one takes it for what it is, it's actually reasonably entertaining, and at least as good as—if not better than—some recent offerings. It's been the inspiration for numerous imitations, and even has a minor cult following.
