The Fifth Element

An all-time favorite of mine, The Fifth Element is possessed of a decidedly different look and feel, thanks to Luc Besson's "foreign" sensibilities. I can sort of understand why it polarized critics and audiences, but I can't grasp why it did so to such an acute degree: it was simultaneously hailed as one of the best/worst films of all time. Clearly, the haters failed to grasp the film's self-awareness, and mistakenly read it as a fault. Me, I've watched it so many times I can practically recite the dialog. Take that for what it's worth.
