The Croods

2013, DreamWorks

Given the premise alone, which skirted a bit too close to The Flintstones for my taste, I didn't have much hope it would be worth my time. Boy, was I wrong! Good story, good voice cast, and good animation came together to make a satisfying 'toon—I confess the scene where Grug was hurling his family members across an abyss had me a little choked up. It was successful enough that it spawned a television series and a sequel.

The Croods: A New Age

2020, DreamWorks

It's always encouraging to see a sequel that's as good as the original. I quite enjoyed the first Croods, and had high hopes that weren't crushed. At times a little preachy, it was nevertheless fresh and original enough to maintain my interest.
