Boss Baby2017, DreamWorks With its strange take on children's "where do babies come from" mystery, the writers stretched things way too far; it bears some of the same awkwardness as a "Santa is real" fantasy film. In particular, the titular character is far too repugnant to earn his redemption at the end, which one can see coming for miles. Look at his image in the poster: that snarky smirk sets the vibe for the whole film. The animation is top shelf and even refreshingly different on occasion, with some clever scene transitions; unfortunately it's all in service of a story that will more than likely leave children confused and adults cold. Strangely, audiences gave it much higher marks (A-) than critics (50%), and on this occasion I'm siding with the latter. Yikes, now there's a sequel. No, thank you. DKS 12/17/17 FART-O-METER® Rating:
