While remarkably clever and visually awesome, Disney's Big Friendly Giant seems to expend more effort trying to be visually awesome than gaining our emotional investment in the characters. See it for the visuals, but don't expect it to tug at your heart.
BTW, the amount of CGI nearly qualifies it as animation—it was a coin toss for me to decide where to put it.
